When elephants feel safe and are free to make their own choices, their happiness appears in many different ways. One may send water flying through the air with her trunk, while another gently nudges a companion. Some raise their trunks, trumpet with excitement or simply enjoy standing together in the cool current.

These moments may seem playful and simple, yet they carry a deeper meaning. They show what can happen when elephants are surrounded by patience, protection and compassionate care. Natural behaviour begins to return, relationships grow stronger and each elephant can rediscover the freedom to express joy in her own way.

During Songkran, a celebration closely connected with water, these riverside scenes offer a particularly meaningful reminder. Water refreshes the elephants, but safety gives them the confidence to play. The river provides a place to bathe, but freedom allows their individual personalities to shine.
As we celebrate this season, may the sight of elephants enjoying the water encourage us to imagine a kinder future for every elephant—one in which rivers are places of peace, companionship is freely chosen and lives once shaped by hardship can move forward with dignity and hope.
