At Elephant Rise, every rescued elephant follows a unique path toward healing. For Jokia, that journey has been built over decades in a peaceful environment where she feels safe, respected, and free to simply be an elephant. Familiar landscapes, gentle routines, and the companionship of her herd allow her to navigate the world with an ease that reflects the deep sense of security she has found.

Born in 1960, Jokia endured unimaginable hardship before her rescue. She was forced to work in the logging industry, where relentless labor and cruelty left both physical and emotional scars. During one tragic incident, she lost her calf while being made to continue hauling heavy logs. When the trauma left her unwilling to work, she was brutally abused and permanently blinded. Yet despite everything she endured, her spirit was never extinguished.

Since finding sanctuary, Jokia has gradually rebuilt her confidence. Over the years, she has learned every familiar path, recognized the voices of her caregivers, and formed lasting bonds with other elephants. These relationships have become an essential part of her life, demonstrating how compassion and stability can help even the deepest wounds begin to heal.
